--- title: NET Bible narration project - by Zach DeCook date: 2019-02-02 modified: 2019-02-02 author: Zach DeCook --- The NET Bible Narration project by Zach DeCook is an attempt to record the NET Bible as audio. I estimate the duration of the whole Bible to be about 90 hours of audio. As this is a personal project, and not a job, I'm targetting the following production schedule: * 2019-2021: Principle recording * 2022: Editing and Re-recording The editing process will involve tagging each chapter. The edited form should allow users to listen or download to individual chapters, or specific passages bundled together (for example, as part of a reading plan). All audio for this project is to be relealed under a creative commons license: By-NC-SA I do not hold the copyright to the NET Bible. The NET Bible Society writes such: > You may ask (as we have): “Why not just make the NET Bible public domain? Wouldn’t that solve the problem?” It does solve the permission problem but stifles ministry another way. When a publisher prints a public domain KJV they pay no royalties to anyone, but they still make millions of dollars in revenue – and don’t have to spend any of that money on ministry or charity. We didn’t create the NET Bible to save royalties for such publishers. We think a better approach is to leverage copyright laws to ensure that anyone selling NET Bibles must support ministry. https://netbible.com/net-bible-preface They also state > Incentives should be offered to authors who are willing to share their works for free, (even when they also sell books and software versions of the same title for income) while authors who only offer their works for sale should pay customary royalties. This encourages greater participation in the “ministry first” model. For this reason, I believe it's easiest to use a non-commercial license here. Exceptions should only be granted which are in line with the *ministry first* model. The Creative Commons license allows you to create derivative works (provided you follow the terms (give attribution and share under an alike license). a few examples of cool things you could do: * Mix parts of my recording with your own (so you could renarrate it, or use your voice as the voice actor for different characters) * Use my recordings in your own content (like a video or song) (provided this is noncommercial) If all goes well, I may also record some of the notes from the NET Bible. Most of these will be *study notes*, used to clarify the scripture as needed. Download work in progress [here](https://cloud.zachdecook.com/s/2F94XQ3HQMqfwbm).
